In Odisha hat es viele Slumquartiere in den Städten, Endstation für die Lebensträume vieler früherer Dorfbewohner. Die Perspektivlosigkeit vieler hier aufwachsender Kinder, hatte Johnson immer vor Augen, seit er nach Odisha kam.Vor Augen – weil er täglich gegenüber seinem Haus, auf einen grösseren Slum schaut und weil der Wunsch und die Idee, etwas für die Bildung von Slumkindern zu tun, ihn letztendlich hier nach Odisha führte.Erst nachdem er Sprache und Kultur in Odisha erfasste, gelang es ihm in diesem Jahr, entsprechende Kontakte zu knüpfen und mit Hilfe gleichgesinnter Freunde in die Tat umzusetzen.
Im Juli 2026 eröffnete das Tution Center, das von Svanthanam und einem Freund von Johnson, der im Baubereich arbeitet, je hälftig finanziert wurde (je 2 lakhs – 1700 CHF). Geplant ist es für ca 30 Kinder aus einem Slum, überwiegend Mädchen, die von zwei engagierten jungen Lehrerinnen gefördert werden. Es geht um Hausaufgabenhilfe (Tution) und um ein soziales Miteinander, das die Kinder oft im Slumalltag nicht erleben.

«Since longer time, I talked to one of my new friends in Odisha about my heart`s desire and plan. He is a small businessman, in contractor base in a company. He is also living near the same slum and realizes the reality of the poor slumkids every day. He told me, that he also has been looking since longer time for someone like me, to develop this community, especially the children, to get a better chance in their life. When he and myself started planing a Tution Center, we found a 3. person. He is a local person, also with positive influence in the slum. He organized a small land for the construction of the Tution Center Building. My friend, who is businessman offered, to pay half of the building and I asked Svanthanam, to support the other part of the costs and later some running costs for about 30 children ».
I am so thankfull to Svanthanam, that we got a support for the building of 2 lakhs = about 1700 CHF and a support for the future.We built the Tution Center in 2 months and in July we opened.

I am so happy to see, how kids are growing up, when they get a particular place and two good teachers.
Government teachers dont take educational care for the slum children. But the children's parents want to give a good education to their children.
School teachers always give so much homework to these children, but they can't do that, because in their house, nobody will be educated and can help. Because of this issue, some children stop going to school and they will grow up without education. After some years they will be involved in bad work and criminal activities.

The two teachers visited all poor families and explained about this Tution Center. It is free for all schoolchildren. Government school teachers also started to say it is good, because these childrens are changing their character, they started to study and read in school. They are so happy.
When I visited them end of August, there were now 35 children and the young lady teachers. I was so impressed, to see all the children, really dedicated to their work. I brought apples and bananas with me and saw, that they were very happy to get this gift, drawing a picture and showing it to me.

Er geht wöchentlich 2 – 3 x vorbei, auch um die jungen Lehrerinnen im Hinblick aufs Unterrichten zu fördern. Er ist beeindruckt vom persönlichen Engagement der beiden und ihren emotionalen Dank für den 1. Lohn, den sie erhielten, berührte ihn sehr.
The teachers are educated and very interested young girls. I realized, when going there, they know how to teach young children and also I am helping them to teach. They are handling things very seriously and perfectly. When I gave both teachers their first salary, they touched my feet, asking me for blessings as older person. I blessed them and I got tears in my eyes, when I realized their happiness about their first salary.When I am in the Tution Center, I see and realize, that this slum children needs chances to grow up and built their own life.
If possible, we can support in the future more such Slum Tution Centers, than a school or families. So we can give more efficiently profit for the education of more children.
Grundsätzlich wäre es Johnsons Anliegen, in Zukunft, mit der Unterstützung solcher Tution Center, auch in anderen Slums, mehr Kinder erreichen zu können, als mit individueller Unterstützung oder einer kleinen Schule.
